Interrupt VectorI have a few characters that appear in several stories. Two of the most popular are Slater and Redeye, who are futuristic hackers with a twist. Instead of stealing or manipulating data, they destroy it, to provide their employers with a competitive advantage. I wrote most of these stories before hacking and cybercrime was regular front-page news, and some of the tech here might seem outdated, or even... quaint. However, I am leaving these stories as-is, because I believe they capture a certain cyberpunk snapshot in time, that was not so long ago. |

SledgehammerThis is another Slater and Redeye story. You'll notice they like exotic, experimental weaponry, and sexy women, not necessarily in that order -- at least Slater does. This story is intended to have a little more "punk" than "cyber", but it does include both. The pair are still concerned with mainframes, and destroying data (possibly because one of my early jobs was doing mainframe disaster recovery) and the story introduces Taishia, one of Slater's future girlfriends. |

The Data Fell Like RainSlater and Redeye retire, and are attacked by ninjas. Yes, really. Is one of them Taishia? |

TreefallThis story placed second in a writing contest held by a downtown, angsty coffee shop and writing collective. I started, and have several mostly incomplete short stories in a series I was calling "Suburban Dreams" about angsty living in the suburbs, mostly written when I was living in a big open downtown loft, near the coffee shop and collective that held the writing contest. |

TikiI threw this story in for something different. I love New Orleans, and all their voodoo, pirate, ghost and vampire history. Once, when in New Orleans after midnight, I ducked into a bar to get out of the rain, and I swear the Goth patrons in there all turned and looked at me like food. I did not stay. I'm mixing a bit of Polynesian and Voodoo culture here, but what the heck. |
